As a combat veteran, military spouse, father, educator, service-disabled small business owner and community activist, Stephen has always been committed to service to his nation, community and family.

Joining the military in 2001 and being in basic training during 9/11, Stephen developed a passion for volunteering in the community throughout his military service. This allowed him to remain connected to the people who he swore to give his life, if necessary. In 2011 before his deployment to Afghanistan he was the defensive coach for the Hopewell youth auxiliary football team, Hopewell Blue Devils. That year the team won the championship as Stephen found unique ways to mentor the boys. This passion for mentoring the next generation has been a key driver in his roles leading soldiers, his son’s youth mentoring club and his scholars at Virginia State University.

Stephen strongly advocates for common sense gun safety solutions. He believes that, while respecting the rights of responsible gun owners, it is essential to implement measures that protect our communities from gun violence.

Stephen believes that every individual should have the autonomy to make decisions about their own bodies. Stephen will defend and uphold the principles of reproductive rights and access for all.

Stephen is committed to expanding access to affordable healthcare for all. He understands the importance of healthcare as a fundamental right, not a privilege. Stephen will champion policies and initiatives that ensure everyone has access to the medical services they need without facing financial hardship.

Stephen is determined to take on Big Pharma and address the soaring costs of prescription medications. He recognizes that many individuals struggle to afford the medicines they need due to inflated prices. Stephen will actively push for reforms and regulations that challenge the pharmaceutical industry to prioritize patients over profits.

As a professor, Stephen deeply understands the importance of education and is steadfast in his commitment to prioritize the full funding of our public schools and raising teacher pay. He recognizes that investing in education is pivotal for our community’s future and that educators, like himself, should be fairly compensated for their vital contributions.

Stephen recognizes the financial strains many Virginia families face. As a dedicated public servant, he is committed to implementing policies that lower costs and alleviate economic burdens on families in our distruct. Stephen will tirelessly work to ensure that Virginia families have more financial stability and can more easily make ends meet.
